The workshop started with a lecture by Thamil Venthan Ananthavinayagan, providing an overview of the ICJ advisory opinions and the process of requesting them, with a case study of the Chagos advisory opinion.

The third workshop continued with a lecture by Alyn Ware about campaigning for ICJ advisory opinions. The lecture shared an experience of advocating for the ICJ nuclear weapons advisory opinion, an inspiring move for the Global Coalition of Youth Ambassadors for the Right to Peace campaigning for the ICJ advisory opinion on the right to peace.

In session 2 of the workshop, Youth Ambassadors for the Right to Peace heard lectures by Marilena Stegbauer and Alyn Ware about People’s Tribunals, their role and impact. One of the goals of the Global Coalition of Youth Ambassadors for the Right to Peace is to establish a tribunal to rule on the right to peace and continue issuing judgments on a periodic basis to analyse States’ obligations under the right to peace.

The third workshop continued with a lecture by David Swanson about best practices in advocacy, an inherent part of our global programme aimimg to recognize and implement the right to peace and crimes against peace in international law.

Workshop no. 3 concluded with a lecture by Stefan Ziegler titled “Humanitarian diplomacy for positive change on your doorstep”, discussing practical tools for Youth Ambassadors for the Right to Peace when engaging with different officials in their national campaigns.
